Salon Owners Must Unite and speak out! and Demand Change and Educational Excellence
If we are to raise the standard of living for hairdressers, and improve salon profits for salon owners and everyone involved with the beauty profession, then we as salon owners must take the lead and raise the standard of educational excellence. We must unite and address these challenges if we are to grow our business and help our hairdresser’s raise their standard of living.
As a salon owner and working hairdresser, you represent the heart and soul of the beauty profession. Your personal, professional and financial success will bring success to everyone involved with the beauty profession.
For too long, many salon owners have been facing the daily challenges of salon ownership in isolation, spending 10-12 long hours per day working behind the chair and sacrificing their personal life & time with family to keep their business growing and profitable.
It is time for Innovation, Higher Learning Standards, Educational Reform, New Ideas, and New Concepts in Education for the Beauty Profession free of Special Interest Groups
Isn’t it time for educational reform and a new beginning? I believe it is, and I see a growing need for more quality education in the following areas:

- Career Mentoring Guidelines
- Education in social Media

- Staff Retention Guidelines
- Labor Law Guidelines regarding minimum wage and overtime pay. — misclassification of independent contractors
- The benefits of social media —we are in the tech age
- Combat Staff Turnover and Business Interruption
- Cost effective marketing and advertising guidelines
- Leadership Training in Managing People
- On the Job Apprenticeship Learning
- Basic Commercial Haircutting Skills for the Average Consumer
- Self-Management Guidelines
- Personal Growth Guidelines
- Positive Attitude Development—
- Client Retention Guidelines
- Improved Customer Service
- Better Work habits
- Improved Business Management skills
- Professionalism
- Salesmanship
- Honesty and a Code of Ethics
- Cost effective marketing and advertising
- An End to Staff Pirating
- A better partnership Between Beauty Schools & Employers
- Teacher Training
- An Equal Playing Field
The above areas of concern must be addressed if the beauty industry and salon owners are to survive and reach higher levels of excellence. Good is not enough anymore. As a survivor of the school of hard knocks and a hairdresser salon owner who for 46 years fought to overcome many of the above obstacles and challenges and a concerned beauty industry professional, I formed Hairdresser Career Development Systems to fill this educational void free of any special interests groups. I urge committed hairdressers and salon owners take control of their own destiny and join me in taking back our profession.
If we are to raise our standard of living, we must raise our standard of educational excellence, demand change and speak out! Good is not enough anymore.
It truly is time for educational reform and a new beginning for beauty professionals!
