Your journey to success cannot be finished without focusing on personal development. For the past few weeks, we’ve been discussing why some people make it big while others barely get by. Now for our final part of our series, we’ll look at the last guidelines you need to complete your journey to success. Your first step towards making your dreams and expectations starts from within and your attitude towards a better life for yourself and your family.  Do you have what it takes? Do you know what it takes?

Follow these guidelines with an open mind:

Business Minded — learning a little about business will help you to better understand your boss better, so you can mutually work together towards the same vision and goals. Salons that are not run like a business will usually fail. Treat your job like the business it is so you and your salon can survive in a tough environment.

Focused — stay focused on your goals and development. Many people will unconsciously take time away from you. Even your family will want some of your time. Avoiding unnecessary distractions from your goals and efforts will be a heavy challenge that you must learn to overcome.

Sacrifices — no one said building a hairdressing career or business would be easy. It takes a lot of personal sacrifices to achieve success. Are you willing to make a few sacrifices to reach your goals? Olympic athletes, champions and successful people know that to get to the top they will endure a lot of personal sacrifices. Show your competitive spirit and go for it.

Patience — it take time, education, experience, and a burning desire to succeed. Take one step at a time and you will reach your goals, but you must pay your dues. Impatience is the greatest thief of success; you must learn to walk before you run.

Commitment — are you willing to make a commitment to maximizing your full learning and earning potential or you always looking for excuses to fail.  Make a commitment today to bring out the best in yourself. Work hard to making a firm commitment towards a better life for yourself and your family.

Dynamic Personality — a real professional not only works hard to make their customers look good but also works hard to build their customers’ self confidence and self esteem. A fantastic personality will make you a joy to be around. With a happy smile and great personality, you will stand above the crowd. We are in the business of not only making our customers look good, but also feel good about themselves. So be sure to smile a lot! It’ll make you a happier person as well as spreading joy to all your teammates and clients.

Faith in Yourself — have faith in yourself and in your skills. Remember: you control your own destiny. You better believe in yourself, because you’re all you’ve got! If you consistency do your best, the worst cannot happen. At the end of the day it all comes down to you and if you believe in yourself. If you don’t have a love of yourself, love others, and have a passion for your profession and self improvement, you may want to find another career.

This concludes our series on the journey of success. I challenge yourself everyday to follow these concepts. Excellence does begin with you. All of you have the potential to be as successful as you want to be. The choice is yours.
