Good is not enough Anymore
It’s no secret that salon owners and hairdressers are facing many challenges in trying to build a successful business by improving salon profits, and raise their standard of living for themselves and staff. It is time for educational reform focusing on the educational needs of hairdressers and salon owners who represent the heart and soul of the beauty profession.
With rising business costs, increasing competition by well managed upscale salons, new labor laws ,and a changing market place; only well managed upscale salons will survive stand out from the crowd and gain that all important competitive edge over your competition.
Sadly many salons will fail because far too many salon owners are in denial and will not seek out education especially in the business management aspect of salon ownership because it requires a new mindset and hard work. It is much easier to stay in their comfort zone.
A recent government report showed only 7 % of all salons last beyond 7 years.
Despite this alarming statistic I see a coming boom for open minded entrepreneur salon owners who are well informed, excellent business men and women, and who are determined to make their business a success. Tough times always separate winners form losers but tough times always present fantastic opportunities for the well informed.
I thing I have learned over the years, people don’t mind paying higher prices if you exceed client expectations.
With the proliferation of low cost haircutting salons popping up throughout the United States as well as price wars, booth rental, salon suites, commission wars, rent wars, staff turnover, minimum and overtime pay mandates and new employment laws. Salon owners are struggling to find solutions today’s changing business climate.
Today’s consumers are crying out for upscale hairdressers and salon owners who are truly committed to meeting and exceeding their client expectations. Those who are determined to make their business successful, and adapt to the needs of the consumer, will be in high demand.
I see tremendous windows of opportunity for business minded entrepreneur salon owners who are committed to be excellent business men and women and know how to create a demand for their services. Yes ,owning a salon is a business and should be treated as such.
I urge you to keep a positive attitude, develop strong business management skills, persevere,keep an open mind towards self improvement and develop a passion towards learning how to be astute business men and women, and develop a competitive spirit.
As leaders of our team, we must individually become better business men and women and do what’s necessary to take our business to a higher level.
