competitive edge

Developing Your Competitive Edge.

Adapting to change and gaining that all important competitive edge will help your salon standout in your community.

Innovation, new ideas and  new marketing concepts will set you apart from your competition.

It’s no secret that the beauty industry  has changed and needs educational reform, unfortunately most education in the industry is promoted by the the product companies promoting their products.

Sadly many salons who are not adapting to change and a competitive business  climate will  fail because far too many salon owners are in denial and will not seek out education especially in the business management aspect of salon ownership.  It is much easier to stay in their comfort zone because change requires hard work, new thinking and effort. Sadly many salons will continue to struggle and fail.

Looking for excuses to fail is much easier.

Despite these challenges I see a coming boom for  passionate open minded entrepreneur salon owners  who are well informed, excellent business men and women,  and determined to make their dreams a reality. Their competitive spirit and determination to succeed and meet the challenges of salon ownership will always  gain that all important competitive edge

Tough times always separate winners form losers and tough times always present fantastic opportunities for  those who are determined  and well informed.

With the proliferation of low cost hair cutting salons popping up throughout the United States (we should be raising prices, not lowering them) as well. Price wars, booth rental, salon suites, commission wars, rent wars, staff turnover, minimum and overtime mandates  and new employment laws will continue to plague salon owners.

Despite these challenges, I see windows of great opportunities for upscale well managed salons. A recent recent government study showed, only 5% salons make it beyond 7 years.

Today’s consumers are crying out for upscale hairdressers and salon owners who are truly committed to meeting and exceeding their client expectations.

Those who are determined to make their business and staff successful, and adapt to the needs of the consumer, will be in high demand.

I urge you to keep a positive attitude, develop strong business management skills, persevere, develop a competitive spirit, and seek out help.
