Building and growing a successful and profitable business in today’s tough economy by trial and error is just too costly. You don’t have the time, energy, or money to be making mistakes. Trying to run a profitable business and adapting to the many changes occurring within our profession is crucial to survive. The following steps will help you meet the growing challenges of salon ownership. Be sure to review my cheat sheet to owning a successful business.Don’t make salon ownership so complicated.
Follow this cheat sheet with an open mind:
Invest in Business Education —- develop powerful business management skills: manage your business instead of your business managing you. Learn from people who have successfully owned salons, chances are they probably have experienced and overcome many of the business challenges you face daily in your salon. Seek out help and other people’s opinions. Learn from their experiences, then just go for it. Hairdresser Career Development Systems was created to serve as a road map in building a successful and profitable business.
Plan Ahead — sadly most salon owners did not write a winning business plan when they started their business; they pretty much winged it along the way. Those days are gone. Get yourself organized and structured. Develop a plan of action. You must clearly define what you want out of owning a successful and profitable business: set your goals, prioritize your goals, then work hard to make your goals a reality.
Failure to adapt to change can be costly.
Train and Educate — invest in educating your team and be sure you always hire the right people! The better your hiring standards the better your results. Lead your team on how to become successful and you will turn a profit and raise the standard of living for your team. Always set high quality control standards. Remember: excellence starts at the top.
Promote and Market Your Salon — develop a cost effective marketing campaign to increase salon traffic through advertising, social media and other free resources. It’s time for you to become a marketing expert. No one will visit your salon if they haven’t heard about it! Of course we all know that positive word of mouth advertising is your real score card.
