I'm sharing my journey so you don't have to suffer what I suffered while still enjoying what I enjoyed. The Business Journey You Don’t Have to Take Alone.

You are not alone anymore!

I want to share my journey in the hopes that I can make your journey easier than mine. My intent on writing this article is to help you find solutions to the many  challenges salon owners are experiencing in today’s changing and competitive business climate, I want to share my journey in the hope that I can make your journey easier than mine. As owner of 3  successful salons for over 43 years and 10 years as an educator.  I want to help  my colleagues reach higher levels of excellence personally, professionally, and financially. They are all connected to each other.

I can tell you what you want to hear and make you feel good,  but we all know this type of motivation only lasts a week or two. Or I can offer my tough love opinions and tell you what you need to hear.

Please don’t take this criticism personally.  I only ask that you keep an open mind.

If we are to find solutions to the many challenges we as salon owners are facing, we must examine the dark side of our profession and ask the question — why are salon owners having to deal with all these challenges and changes occurring within our profession? I know positive minded professionals want to hear the truth both good and bad, about our profession..

New labor laws, government crack down on minimum wage and overtime mandates, staff turnover, misclassification of workers, the growth of low cost franchises, the inability to find and keep good help, growing salon failures, a growing labor shortage are just a few of the challenges we are facing today.

I feel I have the experience and education to share my hard won knowledge.

My desire is to make your journey easier than mine.  A trial and error approach to meeting these challenges is just too costly.  I do not expect everyone to agree with my opinions since much of my criticism can be controversial. We can agree to disagree.

The information I share is not only based on my personal experiences, but learning from thousands of salon owners and hairdressers I have had the privilege of meeting at  my business seminars and as a guest speaker at trade shows throughout the U.S and Canada.

I want to share my journey and story with all my colleagues who are working and struggling to earn a very good living as well as helping our new generation of newcomers reach higher levels of excellence in the beauty profession.
As  a hairdresser/salon owner and now a business consultant and president of Hairdresser Career Development Systems and founder of my University of Educational Excellence for Beauty Professionals,I want to give you an alternative to today’s out dated educational system.

I want to share a little story about my growth and development in a effort to  help you reach your full learning and earning potential and renew your passion to succeed.

I started  my career at my mother’s small salon, I only intended to earn part time income as a protection if  I lost my job in construction.  The first couple of years were very painful and I wanted to quit many times, but with with 6 children I needed to have a plan,it was sink or swim

After being laid off I entered beauty school. I finally realized that beauty school did not provide me with enough education on crafting a successful and profitable career, so I went on a rampage towards learning and self-improvement. As I learned more, I earned more.

Pretty soon I became more passionate about education and the profession I’d chosen as a career. Along my journey, I also saw many flaws in   our education systems.

I developed my artistic skills by taking many advanced haircutting classes as well as private haircutting and barbering classes here in the United States and in Europe. I also took classes at the Jingles school of cutting in London, Luis LLongueras in Spain, Vidal Sassoon, as well as attending the world cup in Holland, France, England, and Spain. I realized that if I wanted to stand above the crowd and gain my competitive edge, I would have to develop other important skills such as client retention, public speaking, marketing, social media, leadership training,  business and much more learning to work smarter, not harder.

I have been a passionate education junkie ever since.

As I developed my skills, I decided to start my own salon. Unfortunately, I had no money, so I did my research, wrote my business plan and was able to secure a direct loan from the Small Business Administration. With a lot of hard work and personal sacrifices, I was able to succeed as a salon owner.

I opened two other successful salons as well in southern Californians.  During this time I kept a journal of all the challenges I faced as well as finding solutions how I found solutions to the many challenges of owning a business. Along the way I saw many flaws and changes within the beauty industry.that needed t0 be addressed. Eventually, which led to  author my first book on Personal Development : A Hairdresser’s Guide to Success.

As a salon owner, I worked hard at developing my business management skills. I kept taking notes and finally wrote three other books on Management for salon owners.

I was able to retire financially independent debt free. I tell you this not to brag, I have no ego.  MY message to you — If I can do it so can you–Never give up on your dreams! Anything is possible if you believe.

I formed hairdresser Career Development Systems free of any special interest groups to provide you an alternative to an educational system that is obsolete. My only business is education.

If you want more of this type of education, I need your support ,so share and hit the like button.
