As many of you are aware, the costs of owning your
own business will continue to escalate, especially after the new proposed tax increases, new labor laws and the uncertain growing business challenges.
A trial and error approach to finding solutions to these growing obstacles are too costly.
Another factor that is causing more financial strain on small business owners and and your team is the rising costs of living.
Despite these coming challenges I feel well managed salons will prosper, provided they develop a business management mind set.
I suggest you start now if you want to grow your salon and improve profits.
The following tips will help you get started:
Goals — clearly define your goals for not only your business, but also your personal and financial goals. Without a road map, your salon will drift aimlessly.
Create Value — in your services by working hard to exceed client expectations. Make sure your staff understands the power of customer service. Loyal customers and referrals will be your reward.
Lost customers — are the easiest to get back, simply send a note with an offer by saying we miss you. If they do not respond, a phone call will be helpful.
Marketing — Start planning, you’re yearly marketing strategy, especially for the slower months. If you need more clients, stay focused on keeping existing clients and gaining new ones.
Take advantage of social media and email marketing. This will be one of my topics at my 2 day business only seminar in Las Vegas, Nevada July 22-23.
Staff Evaluation — measure performance of each staff member based on their customer return rate and referrals. All your efforts of attracting new customers will be meaningless if certain members of your staff are not performing. Negative word of mouth advertising affects everyone.
Overhead Expenses – the easiest way to improve profits is to evaluate your profit and loss statement. Numbers don’t lie, are you really making a profit?
Define Your Market – what type of client and income level do you want to attract? Do you want to attract a Walmart client or a Nordstrom client? You should conduct a demographic study and make sure you target the right customers and measure your results.
Despite these challenges 2019 and beyond can be a great year, you will probably win by default because many salon will fail because of indifference, poor business management skills and salon owners who want to stay in their comfort lone.
Far too many people are always looking for excuses to fail. You need not be one of them. Make sure you attend my seminar in Las Vegas, if you want to survive and grow your business.
