With over 43 years as a successful salon owner/hairdresser and ten years as a educator, business consultant,entrepreneur,blogger, author and motivational speaker,who was able to retire financial independent debt free, I want to share information and provde solutions to the many challenges facing salon owners, hairdressers, nail techs and everyone working daily in the trenches,to earn a better living for themselves and their families.
I think you all know our profession is facing many changes in trying to find solutions to the many challenges of owning your own business or building a career in the beauty profession.
New booth rental challenges, new cumbersome minimum wage labor laws , and overtime , misclassifying workers,finding and keeping quality help, rising business costs ,the influx of low costs haircuts( should we not be raising prices?) recruitment of your top workers from salon suites,our trade shows that are turning into flea markets,high drop out rates of our young talent, the list goes on and on.
Everything we read from our trade magazines and our trade shows pretty much are advertisements disguised as education about product sales; don’t get me wrong we do need retail and some of our hair shows produce good artistic education, although we should have more on business management and personal development classes as well.
Because I now have time ,I am able to donate my time in writing blog articles, business and success tips and provide useful information, that will help salon owners, hairdressers, and beauty professionals meet the growing challenges of owning a successful and profitable business and a successful career in the beauty profession.
Because I do not allow any product companies to promote their products on my web site , they have enough exposure to promote their products; I need to stay objective to the needs of salon owners, hairdressers and other professionals working daily in their salons,we must focus on raising their standard of living.
If we are to accomplish this goal,we need to reform our educational system to better meet growing job market and consumer demands.
