” Successful and unsuccessful people do not vary greatly

in their abilities, they vary in their desires to reach their potential”

— John Maxwell

Building and growing a successful and profitable business in today’s tough economy by trial and error is just too costly in terms of time, money and energy spent.

The following steps will help you meet the growing challenges of salon ownership with confidence.

Follow these guidelines with an open mind:

Invest in Business Education —- develop powerful business management skills; manage your business instead of your business managing you. Learn from people who have successfully owned salons, chances are they probably have all experienced and overcome many of the business challenges you face daily in your salon. Take control of your own destiny, seek out help and other people’s opinions, learn from their experiences , then just go for it.

Plan Ahead —  sadly most salon owners did not write a winning business plan when they started a business; they pretty much winged it along the way, learning by trial and error.  Get yourself organized and structured, develop a plan of action. You must clearly define what you want out of owning a successful and profitable business, set your goals then work  hard to make your goals a reality then set new goals when they are reached. My management book Creating Your Salon will be extremely helpful.

Structure Your business — do you have your winning business plan in place? How about your staff development plan? Do you have a client retention plan in place? How about your marketing and advertising plan? Have you developed your own quality control program? Do you know where to turn for help when needed? Do you have an employee training and educational program in place? Do you have an employee hand book? These are examples of organizing ans structuring your business.

Hire the right People — inability to hire the right people is one of the biggest obstacles facing salon owners. Develop your staff development program. If you don,t have one follow mine found in my book Creating Your Salon

Train and Educate — invest in educating your team, the better the training, the better your results, teach your team how to become successful. Set high quality control standards. Jon,s new success seminars for hairdressers will be available soon.

Promote and Market Your Salon — develop a cost effective marketing plan to increase salon traffic, through marketing, social media advertising and other resources. Become a marketing expert. Refer to my leadership book Developing Your Skills

Client Retention – measure and monitor the performance  and productivity of your team. Are they performing and exceeding client expectations? You must avoid losing customers, negative word of mouth advertising is just too costly.

Measure Your Results —  examine your profit and loss statement, number don’t lie, they represent your score card.

My educational resources answers all your concerns, check out my management books, they will give you the educational tools to not only own a successful and profitable business, but also help take the stress and worry of salon ownership.
