Salon Owners Must Take Control Of Their Own Destiny

If we are to raise the standard of living for hairdressers,  improve salon profits for sal0n owners in this tough economy, then we as salon owners must raise the standard of educational excellence. We must unite and address the many obstacles and challenges of salon ownership.

As a salon owner and working hairdresser, you represent the heart and soul of the beauty profession.  Your personal, professional and financial success will bring success to everyone involved with the beauty profession.  For too long, many salon owners have been facing the daily challenges of salon ownership in isolation, spending 10-12 long hours per day working behind the chair and sacrificing their personal life & time with family to keep their business growing and profitable.

Isn’t it time for educational reform and a new beginning free of glitter and hype and special interest groups?  I believe it is and I see a growing need for more quality education in the following areas:

  • personal growth and development of our hairdressers
  • career mentoring and educational guidance
  • financial planning
  • business management guidance for salon owners
  • identifying and avoiding the causes of staff turnover
  • cost effective marketing and advertising
  • leadership and people management training
  • on the job apprenticeship learning
  • basic commercial haircutting skills
  • self management guidelines
  • positive attitude development
  • client retention
  • customer service
  • better work habits
  • business management skills
  • professionalism
  • employee training and development
  • salesmanship
  • a code of ethics
  • an end to staff pirating
  • partnering with beauty schools & employers

The above areas of concern must be addressed if the beauty industry ,hairdressers and salon owners are to move forward. As  a survivor of the school of hard knocks and a hairdresser salon owner who for over 41 years  struggled to overcome many of the above obstacles, I formed Hairdresser Career Development Systems to help you make your journey easier than mine, free of any special interest groups, to help you address the growing obstacles salon owners and hairdressers face everyday in their salons. In order to fill this  educational divide  and until the industry changes, salon owners must  take control of their own destiny, and address these challenges now.

It truly is time for educational reform and a new beginning for beauty professionals. Together we can and will take back our salons and our profession, I need your support, please spread the word.
